Camp Manager

Description

The Fishers Parks Camp Manager is a full-time leadership role responsible for the strategic planning, development, execution, and oversight of all Fishers Parks seasonal camp programs, including Summer Camp, Spring Break, Fall Break, and Winter Camps. This position is responsible for recruitment and onboarding efforts, developing a world-class training program, and seasonal supervision of 100+ employees. The Camp Manager serves as the primary point of contact for camp operations across multiple locations. The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader with a passion for youth engagement, team development, and high-quality programming.

  • Strong public speaking presence to conduct large staff trainings and engage occasionally with other stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt in fast-paced environments.

Examples of Duties

Program Leadership

  • Develop engaging and creative curriculum centered around weekly themes for ages 4-13 for half-day and full-day camps.
  • Create daily schedules, and coordinate enrichment activities, special guests, field trips, and vibrant contracted specialty camps.
  • Conduct annual assessments of camp programs, including participant feedback, incident reports, and financial performance.
  • Coordinate all operational logistics including site setup, inventory management, registration systems, contracts, and transportation.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (Marketing, Public Safety, Facilities, Public Works) and a variety of external vendors/contractors to support seamless camp execution.
  • Monitor and manage camp budgets, purchasing, invoices, and supply inventory.
  • Pursue American Camp Association (ACA) Accreditation.

Staff Management & Supervision

  • Supervise and manage 100+ seasonal team members; including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training and ongoing training and development

Training and Development

  • Develop and facilitate a robust training program, ensuring our staff is set up for a successful season
  • Provide ongoing coaching to ensure an engaged, accountable and high performing team
  • Serve as on-site leadership during peak camp weeks and Friday field trips, maintaining active supervision and staff/child safety ratios.

Customer Service

  • Act as the primary point of contact for camp-related inquiries from parents, guardians, and community stakeholders.
  • Provide excellent customer service, ensuring timely and professional communication with families before, during, and after the camp season.
  • Provide excellent internal service, ensuring thorough communication and follow-through.
  • Represent Fishers Parks in public-facing settings with confidence, professionalism, and enthusiasm.

Cross-Departmental Support

  • Support major Parks events during the off-season (e.g., concerts, community events, programs).
  • Lend support leadership to our award-winning Fishers Parks Nature First partnership program with HSE Schools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of leadership or management experience in youth programming, summer camps, recreation, or event management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Smartsheet and experience with Amilia software, preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license with a record that allows the ability to be insured to drive a City vehicle.

Supplemental Information

  • The person holding this position will typically work within business hours (8:30am - 4:30pm) but at times will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary to participate in programs or events.
  • Work is performed in a variety of settings including offices, events, parks, etc.
  • Must have the ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and work in an active, outdoor environment for extended periods.
