Water is life. It is also a powerful force that, if not managed effectively, can sink a community. This is why employees in the Water Quality Division of Public Works are vitally important to the City of Fishers and its citizens. The Part-time Public Educator position is part of a dedicated team that is responsible for Sanitary Sewer, Wastewater Treatment, Stormwater, and Floodplain Management for the City through training, public education, plan review, inspection, and permitting associated with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit, Municipal Separate Storm Sewer (MS4) Permit, and National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) via the City’s Sanitary and Stormwater Utilities. Projects of this division include: wastewater treatment plant and sanitary sewer related education initiatives, recycling days, educational booths at public events, school instructional visits, waterway cleanup events, rain garden projects, free rain barrel/composter programs, floodplain related education, and grant and steward program guidance.
