Title: Part-time Educator - Water Quality
Status: Regular Part-Time (25-29 hours per week)

Water is life. It is also a powerful force that, if not managed effectively, can sink a community. This is why employees in the Water Quality Division of Public Works are vitally important to the City of Fishers and its citizens. The Part-time Public Educator position is part of a dedicated team that is responsible for Sanitary Sewer, Wastewater Treatment, Stormwater, and Floodplain Management for the City through training, public education, plan review, inspection, and permitting associated with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit, Municipal Separate Storm Sewer (MS4) Permit, and National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) via the City’s Sanitary and Stormwater Utilities. Projects of this division include: wastewater treatment plant and sanitary sewer related education initiatives, recycling days, educational booths at public events, school instructional visits, waterway cleanup events, rain garden projects, free rain barrel/composter programs, floodplain related education, and grant and steward program guidance.

Examples of Duties:

• Performs educational related duties related to sanitary sewer, wastewater treatment plant, stormwater and floodplain management.
• Conducts in-house training related activities for the utilities.
• Coordinates and attends utility related educational events such as recycling days, booths at City festivals and markets or special events, school education programs, waterway cleanups, etc.
• Completes floodplain management related education/coordination in flood-prone areas.
• Implements erosion and sediment control and stormwater best management practice (BMP) related education and training.
• Performs stormwater grant related education.
• Administers the free rain barrel/composter, Adopt-A-Drain, and other Stormwater related steward programs.
• Prepares education or training related presentations.
• Attends various meetings and public educational events.
• Performs stream/waterway sampling and/or educational events.
• Performs outfall/illicit discharge monitoring and/or illicit discharge related educational initiatives.
• Performs related duties as apparent or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• HS Diploma or equivalent;
• Associate degree or experience in wastewater or stormwater management, environmental science, engineering or a related educational field preferred;
• Valid IN drivers license with at least 3 years of driving experience required and must be able to be insured to drive City vehicles;
• Must be able to work 25-29 hours per week Monday-Friday from 8 am to 4 pm with frequent evening and weekend work. The expectation is that there will be about 15 - 20 Saturdays on the schedule for the year and about 5-10 evening events but this could vary based on business needs;
• Requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs;
• Must be able to interact and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of people;
• Must be able to handle several projects at the same time and effectively problem solve issues;
• Ability to process and use basic workplace data and graphics; summarize, compare and identify trends between and among forms, tables, graphs, diagrams, maps, etc.;
• Requires being comfortable with internal and external stakeholders, customers, and citizens to carry out educational activities;
• Working knowledge of office equipment required;
• Working knowledge of office software required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, etc.).
